PORT HARCOURT – Mr Nkoyo Benjamin, All Progressives Congress (APC), Youth leader in Akuku-Toru LGA of Rivers, has called on the President-elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), to tackle corruption. Benjamin, who made the call in Port Harcourt, told newsmen that corruption was a major factor that had negatively affected the nation’s growth. He warned that Nigeria would not be liberated from its current economic predicament if its leaders could not muster the political will to fight corruption. He expressed regret that the fight against corruption by successive democratically elected governments was only targeted at perceived political enemies. According to Benjamin, the fight against corruption should be holistic to have positive effects in all sectors of the economy. “The incoming administration of Muhammadu Buhari must ensure that there is no sacred cow while tackling corruption to instil confidence in investors,’’ he said. The youth leader also called on Buhari to tackle corruption in the civil service. He explained that if civil servants resist corruption, elected and appointed public officers would not be involved in corrupt practices. “No nation that is neck deep in corruption can grow and develop to meet its challenges especially in a mono revenue resource country like Nigeria,” he said.
