SANGO-OTA (Ogun) – The Covenant University, has, announced the launch of its mobile learning device that would enable its students to compete with their counterparts in other parts of the world.
Its Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Ayo, made this known at the launch of the device in Ota, Ogun.
According to him, the platform will enable students to maximise their potential in software.
He said that the mobile learning tablet would enhance information dissemination and promote interaction and aid effective learning among students.
He added that 7,500 tablets, already configured with course outline, library facility and tutorial questions, would be given to students.
Ayo noted that the resources loaded on the device had been configured for each semester to improve internal efficiency and value for parents’ money.
“The idea was borrowed from University of Winston, Madison, as part of the institution’s efforts to meet international standard,’’ he said.
The vice-chancellor said that the institution had opened a care centre to address challenges associated with the use of the tablets.
He said that the centre was to monitor the usage of the gadget with a view to achieving the purpose for which it was made for.
“The tablet is configured to prevent students from using it to make calls as the institution has banned the use of mobile phones among students. It is also to check immoral acts.
“We have also provided phone centres on campus with security men around to monitor students and their conversation.
“We are enjoying the co-operation of parents in this regard as they have been supporting us in all measures taken.’’
Ayo said that the institution had leverage on the available resources and invested funds in infrastructure development to make the mobile learning device work effectively.
Mr. Yomi Adedeji, the Managing Director of Softcom, the consulting firm for the project, said that the tablet would assist students in their academic pursuit.
He assured that the service of the learning device would be improved upon in due course.
Adedeji, who is an ex-student of the institution, advised students to take advantage of the project to enhance their learning performance and exchange ideas among their peers.
He also said that the institution had partnered with Samsung and Softcom to facilitate the operation of the device.
