The Organised labour has called off its proposed 3-day warning strike in Edo State following agreements reached after a closed-door meeting with the state government.

The executives of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and Joint Negotiating Council announced the suspension of the proposed strike shortly after the meeting with Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Friday.

Speaking on behalf of the organized labour, Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council, Mr. Shaka Otoide said, “in view of the notice we gave to Edo State Government to embark on a 3-day warning strike with effect from Monday, 25th of May 2015, after a meeting between the Edo State Government and the Joint Negotiating Council including the Nigerian Labor Congress, Trade Union Congress, the strike action has been suspended.

“The circular from the office of the Head of Service that the commencement of the Pensions Scheme with effect from May has also been withdrawn. The 8% that was deducted from the salary of the workers will be paid back to workers’ salary . So the proposed warning strike has been called off”, he said.

Otoide thanked Governor Oshiomhole for his quick intervention and for always standing by the labour movement at all times.
