BENIN CITY – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Road Safety Club has urged school children to be safety conscious.
The charge was made in Benin City at a sensitization programme organized by members of the club.
Speaking at the event, the club cadet in Chief, Cadet Olayinka Julius Baale, said the programme titled, “Save a Child,” was organized as a way of taking safety to the grassroots and as well educate students on road ethics.
The event had several schools in attendance, including Idia College, Osas Group of Schools and Blue Dove Education Center.
Addressing participants, Deputy Route Commander with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. U.O. Uduma urged the club members and students to put safety first.
He explained that over 500,000 people die daily in road accidents and therefore urged the participants to maintain traffic rules as well as correct their parents, whenever they fail to do so.
On his part, Cadet Ogunji Ebenezer Oluwatosin, a youth corps member implored participants to be safety conscious.
He educated them on the importance of safety and emergency care response, and taught members on how to operate fire extinguishers.
Cadet Oriyomi Tijani, the Deputy Cadet in Chief, NYSC Road Safety Club, explained that the club decided to carryout this community service in order to create awareness on the importance of safe and careful road usage.
