BENIN CITY – The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror has advised the new students of the College of Education, Ekiadolor to take their studies seriously.
He gave the admonition during the 2014/2015 Matriculation Ceremony of the institution.
The Speaker who was represented by Hon. Nosa Okunbor, representing Orhionmwon East Constituency I, commended the Provost, Prof. Amen Uhunmwangho and his Management team for making the College a centre of excellence, assuring them of the House assistance from time to time.
Speaking earlier, the Provost of the College, Professor Amen Uhunmwangho congratulated the fresh students who have been found admissible. The Provost informed the students that though they have been admitted for N.C.E. programme, they have actually been admitted into the University of Education. He said an Act of Parliament which has been assented to by the Comrade Governor of Edo State has upgraded the College to Tayo Akpata University of Education.
Professor Uhunmwangho thanked the Comrade Governor, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole for his wonderful assistance to the institution. He thanked the Honourable members of Edo State House of Assembly and the TET-Fund for their unflinching support to the College.
The Provost said the College is blessed with qualified academic staff, seasoned administrators and facilities for the University.
He enjoined the students to shun examination malpractice, cultism and indecent dressing which are punishable by expulsion from the College.
He commended the staff and students of the College for a wonderful matriculation ceremony.
The Matriculation Lecture was delivered by Prof. Matthew Omo-Ojugo, entitled “The purpose of Tertiary Education”. He explained that Tertiary Education helps students to exhibit their skill, acquire desirable knowledge, and trains the individual to become useful citizens in the society.
The Matriculation Oath was administered by the College Registrar, Mrs. E.A. Fenemigho.
High points of the ceremony were the signing of the Matriculation register, cultural dance display by Music Department and Drama presentation by the Talent in Action Team.
A total number of One Thousand, Five Hundred (1,500) students matriculated.
The occasion was witnessed by the Speaker Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Edoror, represented by Hon. Nosa Okunbor, Prof. Matthew Omo-Ojugo, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Principal Officers, Deans and Directors H.O.Ds, members of S.U.G. and S.R.C amongst others.
