BENIN CITY- Edo State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Idehen Uwuilekhue yesterday asked the Liquefied Petrol and Gas Association of Nigeria (LPGAN), Edo State chapter to create its membership data bank in order to sift the real business men from quacks in the domestic gas retailing business.
The commissioner who gave the advice during a meeting with members of the association in his office, said that it will help to reduce the unwholesome attitude of unscrupulous persons in their rank without the required training, in case of fire outbreak.
He assured the association that Edo State Government would not shy away from its responsibility of ensuring safety of lives and people in the state, and expressed the readiness of the ministry to partner with the association on modalities to create a monitoring committee through the fire service officers of the state and provide security in order to check any sharp practice.
Earlier, the chairman of the Liquefied Petrol and Gas Association of Nigeria, Edo State chapter, Mr. Ehi Osara explained that the body gives the interest and safety of its
members priority attention even as he enumerated the challenges to include infiltration of every Torn, Dick and Harry into the domestic gas sales business. He also noted that they had no training from the Directorate of Petroleum Resources and Certification by the fire fighting authority. He observed that they move gas in vehicles for sale to consumers and use under aged persons in domestic gas retailing among others.
He said this had necessitated the association to seek the intervention of the ministry to check these anomalies.
