EKPOMA – In order to save taxpayers the challenge of traveling distance for tax assessment, registration and payment, the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has commissioned a new tax office in Ekpoma.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Chief Sir Oseni Elamah, said the importance of the new tax office cannot be overemphasised as it  further saves the people, especially those in the area, of the challenge of traveling distance for the purpose of tax matters.
He said EIRS was currently having problem of  overcrowding at the headquarters, hence the need to open the revenue office in Ekpoma.
The Executive Chairman who was represented by the Executive Director, Revenue, Prince Felix Isuku disclosed that the agency intends to open more offices across the state for efficient service delivery.
The EIRS boss who frowned at the level of issuance of fake drivers licence which he observed were in circulation, maintained that anybody found wanting would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the extant tax laws.
“Fake drivers licence are everywhere.  We have arrested many but we applied human face as some of them claimed they did n’t know.  You can only obtain genuine drivers licence from any of the tax offices”,  the Executive Chairman stated.
In his remarks, the Edo State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Familoni Oluwasusi acknowledged the political will of the state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole which he noted culminated in the opening of  the tax/drivers licence office in the area.
He said the commitment was to enhance the production of the new drivers licence in the state, and to assist the state government in terms of revenue generation, reducing applicants’ stress/time as well as rendering quality service to the people
Speaking on the merits of the new office, the FRSC Sector Commander, stated that it will further increase the revenue generation of Edo State and make the people more responsible.
