ABUJA – Mrs. Halima Usman, Founder, Halima Factor Community Initiative, a Non-Government Organisation (NGO), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to focus on waste to wealth and energy programmes.
Usman, who gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, said that the Federal Government should initiate programmes that will promote a sanitised society.
According to her, the environment was an asset to the nation and must therefore be preserved.
“The environment is our wealth, our asset. We must treat it as such.
“This new administration must immediately look into diverse ways of sustaining it.
“ There are so many ways we can turn waste to wealth and energy; they should promote such strategies so that our society cannot only have fresh air, but also develop in the process.
“ It will also free us from diseases and prevalent issues like mosquitoes,’’ she said.
The NGO boss said that the Federal Government should set out plans to clean the dirty roads in the metropolis.
She urged government at all levels to also reintroduce the monthly sanitation to clean the environment, adding that it had many benefits.
Halima Factor Community Initiative is aimed at helping to shift people’s attention from waiting and over-dependent on the government.
It also helps communities to be solution providers to their immediate environment on sanitation and sanitary health related problems through positive self-help initiative.
