Secretary to Edo State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere has reiterated the need for  adequate social education in Primary and Secondary Schools in order to curb the spate of cultism  amongst teenagers across  the state.
Prof. Ihonvbere was speaking yesterday in Government House, while receiving a delegation of Coalition of Progressives who came on a courtesy visit to present him with an award.
The SSG remarked that there is serious problem in the society owing to the fact that children come out of Primary and Secondary Schools without social consciousness and that cultism has replaced social clubs.
Speaking on the issues of political corrections, social justice and the content and context of progressive  activism, Prof. Ihonvbere noted that the Nigerian democracy has made some progress in certain areas but there is still a lot of work to be done.
According to him for example, “Nigerians now know that an incumbent president  can be defeated, but the cost of election is still too high among other practices that need to be done away with.
Against this backdrop, he opined that there are Islands of integrity and ideas allover the country that will one day  come together to bring about the desired change we all look forward to.
Giving a word of advise to the delegation, he said “a man must know his/her limitations. Once  you know your limitations and you plan your ambitions around your limitations, you will never make any mistake.
He thanked them for the recognition and honour given him by reason of the award.
Leader of the delegation, Coalition of Progressives, Mr.  Chris Olusola, said the level of statesmanship displayed by Prof. Julius Ihonvere, before, during and after the primaries was a role model to emulate and deserved to be awarded the statesman of the year 2015.
