BENIN CITY – Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has proclaimed the opening of the sixth Edo House of Assembly in Benin.
Oshiomhole in a letter of proclamation sent to the Clerk, Mrs. Bose Suru-Ogbebor stated that the inauguration was in line with the provisions of session 105, sub-session 3, of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
Shortly after the inauguration, the Legislators elected principal officers of the House.
Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror (APC)  Esan Central emerged as the Speaker while, Hon. Bright Osayande, (APC)  Ovia North East II was voted Deputy Speaker.
Hon. Foly Ogedengbe (APC), Owan East was elected  for the position of the Majority Leader, while Hon. Elizabeth Ativie, (APC)  Uhunwode emerged as the Deputy Leader of the House while the Chief Whip of the House went to Hon. Sunday Aghedo, (APC)  Ovia South West and the Deputy Whip went to Hon. Adjoto Kabiru, (APC)  Akoko Edo.
Controversy, however, trailed the nomination of the Minority Leader of the House as the House received three different letters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominating three different members as the Minority Leader.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror set aside the Letter and called on the leadership of the PDP to put their House in order.
