The major negative factors that have prevented development and stability in our Political dispensation in Africa is politics of bitterness.
Often times I see politicians killing each other, betraying one another because of political positions or appointments.
Does politics teach us to destroy one another? Is  polities meant to eradicate integrity and love for one another?
Politicians who destroy and betray each other do so because they lack ethics of politics and true meaning of politics. The fact that you lost your presidential, Governorship or Senatorial position should not make you to develop hatred and bitterness towards your opponents.
A true politician should constantly allow ethics in politics to guide his words and actions.
A case study of politics played in the western world, like America, Britain, Japan, Italy and Spain and so on, should be emulated by our politicians in Africa. Recently, I watched the politics of Ghana to see if it would be characterized by violence that is often being  associated with Nigeria and other Africa nations. To my amazement, I discovered that Ghana politics was devoid of violence and rigging of election.  This is not to say that there were no negative flaws in Ghana politics. But it produces platform for other politicians to learn from.
The fact that you are in a different political party with your opponent should not make you nurse the ambition on how to destroy your opponent’s ambition or career.
The essence of Politics is to promote one another, enhance development in our society, promote peace and unity and motivate one another to higher heights generally.
We fail in our political ambitions and positions because of wrong motives in politics. We should constantly emulate God who makes the rain to fall on the just and on the unjust. We should always learn from his faithfulness, love, mercy, and kindness towards his creatures. Politicians who succeed in any Position should wish others well, overlook the mistakes and short-comings of others, see beyond the now and allow ethics in politics to guide their words and actions.
I will urge politicians both in Africa and those in the Western world to constantly allow their words and actions be devoid of hatred for their opponents, live in unity and have a common goal that will always enhance positive development in their states and countries.
These will help to enhance your longevity on earth and favor with God and man.
Ethics of Politics
Politics and political activities across the world ought to be characterized with ethics and in ethics.
Lack of ethics in politics makes politician to live for themselves and enact laws that do not favor the electorate and deprive the citizens of the dividends of democracy.
True ethics of politics make politicians govern well, enact laws that favour the electorate, shun corruption and live legacies that will out grow their generations.
Ethics in politics make politicians to avoid rigging of election, abide by its parties rules and regulations and seek the welfare of others.
Ethics in politics will make politicians shun every act of betrayal  of one another, eradicate killing one another, promote love and unity and encourage development in our states and nation.
Ethics in politics enhances and promote wisdom, ideals, faithfulness and commitment to every political position and promote unity among our political parties.
Ethics in politics makes Governors, Presidents or Senators resign in office if they have health challenges which is preventing them from governing well.
Pope Benedict XVI honorably resigned from his exalted office due to health challenges. Other Popes who are not guided by ethics will prefer to die in office despite health problem.
Lack of ethics in politics make politicians see their exalted position as family affairs, ownership culture towards political office holders destroy Politicians and soil their
names.
Politicians who see themselves and their political positions as stewards live by ethics and are guided by ethics, and constantly prevent anybody who wants to soil their ethical
Values.
For example post- election violence recorded in northern part of Nigeria and other states during Governorship and Presidential elections took place because of lack of ethical value in our society.
The purpose of election is to put credible candidates into political offices so as to achieve development in our states or country.
A situation where post election violence lead to the death of thousands of Nigerians show lack of knowledge and immaturity in our political process.
A true politician work hard for the growth and development of country. He constantly seeks the welfare of the poor, needy and less privileged in the society. Lack of ethics in politics leads to political cross carping without due respect to its political aims and objectives.
Examples abound in our country where an elected governor or a Senator dumps the party that elects them into political office within three months.
If our country must experience development, then we must change our attitudes towards political appointments or elective positions.
Lack of ethics in politics which is constantly being display by politicians makes Boko Haram kill innocent citizens at random, destroy properties worth billions of naira and
hinder development in their geo-political zones.
Lack of ethics in politics make (MASSOB) constantly clamour for sovereignty in the Eastern Part of  Nigeria.
Lack of ethics in politics makes (MEND) blow up oil wells, kidnap both local and foreign expatriates and demand for millions of naira in Dollars for their ransom.
Lack of ethics in politics by our politicians makes the militants and armed robbers to kill, rob and kidnap people without mercy, fear or favour. Nigeria in 1960 gained her independence. If not for lack of ethics in politics, how come nations that got independence almost at the same period with us left us far behind, in their steady march to progress? Look at India, a nation we once derided, Brazil, Ghana, Indonesia, Mälasia, Singapore, South Africa, to mention a few. How come we are still battling to get 4000
Megawatts of electricity, when power, and education is no longer an issue in other countries?
How come we are producing the 21st set of unemployed graduates?
A country that is the 6th largest oil producing nation on earth?
How come, if not for lack of ethics by politician we haven’t got our transportation system right. air, road, rail and waterways?
How come our army of unemployed, keeps lengthening, while our industrial capacity keeps reducing? How come budgets are running into trillions, while the ordinary Nigerian is still battling with the basic necessities of life, such as water, food, shelter, clothing, health care, amongst others?
I don’t know how you feel or think on how lack of ethics by politicians lead to the death of millions of Nigerians due to bad roads and unemployment.
What confronts me daily, are faces of frustrations and hopelessness. The Boko Haram, MASSOB, OPC are on a mission and MEND is threatening to destroy and disintegrate the country (Nigeria) which our forefathers laboured to build.
If we must move forward as a country our attitude towards money and political ambition must change.
Be rest assured that what ever money or property you acquire on planet earth will not be buried a1ongside with you.
Let’s shun corruption and lack of political ethics in all three- tiers of government and see if development and unity will erode us.
Politicians that God takes Delight on
Does it surprise you that God rejoices and takes delight in a politician that governs well? Or the politicians that shun corruption, fight for the poor and needy in our society. God loves those that make the house of God a habitable place for man to dwell in?
Are you aware that there are Politicians that God has endowed with longevity of life, good health, riches and wealth?
Do you know there are politicians who fear and reverence God genuinely across the world? Are you also aware that there are politicians that spend adequate time to pray and worship God daily?
Do you know that there are countless numbers of politicians who single handedly built Cathedrals for God, give thousands of scholarships to the less privileged and build houses for widows. The fact that bad politicians abound in our society does not mean there are no good ones across the world.
When God referred to king David as a man after His own heart, what did He mean? It connotes a man who is fearless, an epitome of God’s wisdom, one who fights injustice, promotes the welfare of others, one who rejoices always in God’s house, frown at idol worship and make millions of people to serve and reverence God.
And the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah, saying, “thus saith the Lord if ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season…
Then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne, and with the Levites the Priest, my ministers.
As the host of heaven cannot he numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured, so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me”
Jeremiah 33 vs. 19-22.
The covenant God made with David can also be extended to your life if you constantly uphold the truth, fight against injustice, help the poor and the needy and serve God genuinely.
As a politician, won’t you be glad seeing God destroying your enemies and make crooked paths straight before your eyes?
It can only be possible when you shun corruption and fight for the right and welfare of others.
