The Bishop of the Diocese of Benin, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Peter Imasuen has called on the President, Muhammadu Buhari to effectively tackle corruption, so as to reshape the destiny of the country.
He made the call while delivering the Bishop’s charge at the 3rd Session of the 17th Synod of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Benin, last Thursday, in Benin City.
The Bishop who noted that the President is known for his honesty, emphasized that, “the collapse of this country is as a result of corruption,” adding that tackling corruption will solve ninety percent (90%) of the nation’s problems.
The man of God who lamented the spate of corruption has reached unimaginable proportions in the country stated that it is now well known that invigilators assigned to invigilate during public examinations, such as WAEC and NECO examinations, do actively encourage and facilitate examination malpractices.
While calling on government and security agencies to devise effective ways and means of bringing those who engage in malpractice to justice, the Rt. Rev. Imasuen observed that a situation where invigilators demand gratification from school management, to the extent of intimidating those who resist them leaves much to be desired.
On contracts awarded by the previous administration, the Bishop noted that some of these projects were commissioned without being completed, and appealed to the President to compel the contractors involved to complete the projects, or be sanctioned.
He advised the President to be diligent in the area of award of contracts, so as to block linkages.
He similarly urged Buhari to take necessary steps to improve the power sector, just as he stressed the need for the federal government to look into the agricultural sector, and empower committed men and women to go into agriculture with modern farming equipment.
