ABUJA – Senate President, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki yesterday (Friday 19th of June 2015), paid a courtesy visit to the former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta.
The courtesy visit to the elder statesman was in continuation of Senate President’s tour of drawing from wealth of experience and knowledge from elder statesmen accross the nation on ways to move our dear nation forward.
They arrived Obasanjo’s Presidential Hilltop Estate, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, at about 9:11am in about seven Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) and proceeded quickly to the former President’s inner chamber for private discussions.
It is yet unclear why the politicians have gone to see Obasanjo.  Source close to the Obasnjo’s home volunteered that the discussion is in connection with the 8th Senate: Saraki’s battle to retain his election as President of Senate of the Federal Republic, sustain the peace and unity among the senators, reconcile with the all Progressive Congress (APC) leadership and other national issues.
Saraki was elected Senate President unopposed last June 9 by 57 out of the 108 senators in a manner his party deemed a betrayal, treachery and unacceptable.
While the process leading to his election and subdequent swearing – in  lasted at the Senate Chamber, about 45 senators mainly APC members, including Senator Ahmed Lawan, the party’s choice for the Senate President were absent.
Since his emergence as Senate President, the former Kwara State governor  has been working to assure his disatisfied party leaders and members of his commitment to APC on one hand, and quality legislation for Nigerians on the other hand.
Recently, it was alleged that there were attempts by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC to diminish the power of the Senate President and the Speaker in the appointment of principal officers of the legislature.
The principal offices to be filled by the party in the Senate and the House of Representatives are Senate/House Leader, Deputy Senate/House Leader, Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip.
Those in the entourage of the Senate President were Alhaji Kawu Baraje, Sen. Andy Uba, Sen. Alaso Adura, former Governors of Osun and Gombe states, Prince  Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Sen. Danjuma Goje (also a serving senator)
