MINNA – A leading contender for the presidency of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and former Edo State Council Chairman of the Union, Otunba Mike Adelegan Aladenika has advocated for a genuine revolution in ethics and practice of Journalism in Nigeria.
Addressing delegates, leaders and Journalists in Minna, Niger State, the Ondo born Prince, expressed worries about “ethical issues in our profession,” saying that “the invasion of the profession by quarks & busybodies is giving the profession a not too good image.”
He said that if elected, he “will tackle the issue of quackery with all the seriousness it deserves “not only in the interest of the profession, but in the interest of Nigeria.
Aladenika said Journalists have contributed genuinely to “the emergence, growth and sustenance of democracy in Nigeria and cannot allow quarks to draw back the profession & Nigeria.”
The NUJ Presidential Candidate said his administration “will train qualified and non-qualified Journalists with a view to making them professionals”., while the Union’s International Institute of Journalism (IIJ) will be given adequate attention for upgrade.
