BENIN CITY –   The Sixth Edo House of Assembly began plenary on Monday following the inauguration of the assembly.
The house during the session adopted its business calendar of 61 days.
The house also adopted the 1992 house rules as amended as the house rules.
Presenting the calendar before the house, the majority leader, Mr Folly Ogedengbe said the house would sit for 17   days in June, 23 days in July and 21 days in August.
Also, the house received a letter from the chairman of the All Progressive Congress( APC), Mr Aslem Ojezua  recommending a review in the nomination of the position of the deputy house leader.
The party recommended that the position of the deputy house leader earlier given to Mrs Elizabeth Ativie, member representing Uhunwode be given to Mr Sunday Osazemwinde, member representing Ovia North East 1.
The lawmakers adopted the party’s recommendation.
The speaker, Victor Edoror, thereafter announced other members of the principal officers council (POC).
Meanwhile, The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Victor Edoror yesterday promised to wade into the unpaid salaries of Local Government workers in the state.
Edoror made the promise when the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) protested the non-payment of nine months salaries owned its members to the house of assembly premises in Benin.
Mr Young Ilenakhena, the state president of NULGE, who led the protesters to the assembly, said the state government and the local government chairmen have refused to pay them salaries having worked for nine months.
Ilenakhena said” we started this  protest since the beginning of this month against the non-payment of salaries ranging from two to nine months salaries in 15 out of the 18 local government councils in the state.
“Other civil servants in the state have been getting their salaries regularly. We can no longer take it anymore.
“Mr Speaker, we want to place on record that local government workers in the state are now faced with untold hardship.
According to him, the state cannot shy away from its responsibilities adding that, the local government councils were part of the state.
Reacting, the speaker, Victor Edoror promised the protesters that the house would wade into the issue as quickly as possible.
“By tomorrow at plenary we would try to proffer a lasting solution to the problem.
According to the speaker, we would summon the local government chairmen to ascertain why they have not been able to pay salaries.
