BENIN CITY- Operatives of Edo Police Command have been put on red alert to ensure water-tight security before, during and after the celebration of id-el-fitri in the state.
All Area Commanders, heads of departments, federal highway patrols, Divisional Police Officers (DPO’s) and other operational squad leaders in the command have been deployed to man worship and recreational centres as well as other vulnerable points across Edo.
The Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command DSP Stephen Onwochei disclosed this while assuring members of the public of adequate security during and after the celebration, yesterday, Benin City.
He noted that the command’s preparation followed the Inspector-general of Police (IGP) directive to state police commissioners on provision of adequate security during the festivity.
DSP Onwochei added that the state police command has reinforced its Operational Order to ensure that no officer goes around without a specific assigned duty.
“And in that Operational Order, all Area the Commands, all the federal highway patrols, all the distress call teams, all the anti-robbery teams, SARS teams, all the anti-kidnapping teams, whatever we have in this command, they are all out, they are fully engaged.
“Our highways are not left out, they are adequately manned”. He stated.
He warned criminals to steer clear of Edo State as the command is fully ready to contain any situation that would arise during and after the celebration.
“Our advice for them is that either they lie low, if they do otherwise, they will regret their action because the command is ready for them”. DSP Onwochei maintained.
The police spokesman however advised fun seekers to be security conscious and celebrate within the confines of the laws.
It will be recalled that the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared today Friday and Monday, July 20, 2015 public holidays for Muslims to mark id-el-fitri.
