BENIN CITY – The committee set up by Edo State Government to inquire into the crisis that occurred in Etsako West Local Government Council has submitted its report.
Receiving the report recently, in Benin City from the Chairman of the Committee, Barr. Peter Osifo, Edo State Deputy Governor, Pius Egberanmwen Odubu said government will look into the report with a view to giving it due consideration and that there will be no sacred cow.
The Deputy Governor, who represented the State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, noted that listening to the committee Chairman presenting the report, it was clear that the members did a very meticulous job pointing out that the state government had no doubt that they would deliver on their assignment hence they were carefully selected.
He thanked them for accepting the responsibility and carrying it out within the shortest possible time.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee of Enquiry, Barr. Peter Osifo reiterated that sequel to the setting up of the committee on June 2, 2014, it went into action based on its terms of reference which included looking into the remote and immediate causes of the crisis, involvement of student union Government, (SUG) of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi with a view to identifying their possible sponsors and any other matter related therewith.
According to Barr. Osifo, the committee came up with 13 findings and facts, while 23 persons appeared and testified before it and 17 exhibits were tendered and admitted.
He disclosed that the committee found among others that the suspended Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area, Alhassan Mohammed went into an unholy alliance with the purported SUG leaders of Auchi Polytechnic particularly with one Mohammed Sakis and that on the contrary, Auchi Polytechnic students were not involved in the crisis because as at that time, they were on semester break.
The committee Chairman emphasised that the committee was detail in its report and that if the recommendations are carefully studied it will aid government in ensuring lasting peace in Etsako West Local Government Area.
