Abuja – ‎The last may not have be head of  the killings of some prominent Nigerians by security Agency and unknown gun men as the House of Representatives yesterday  called on the federal government to urgently re-open investigation into the unsolved murders with a view of bringing the culprit to justice.

Hon. Kingsley Chinda who raised this motion at the plenary session said that it had become imperative to revisit the extra judicial killings  as subsequent government in the country have been unable to unravel the misery ‎surrounding the killings of these prominent Nigerians.

” there are several cases of extra judicial and unsolved killings in the country, including the killings of some traders at Apo (popularly referred to as Apo six), the invasion by Mobile Policeman and armed soldiers of Ogoni land‎, the invasion of Odi Community, Bayelsa State, the killings in Obiaruku. Delta State, the killings in Zaki Biam, Benue State, the killings of Dele Giwa, Pa Aldred Rewane, Chief Bola Ige, Engr Funso Williams, Dr Ayo Daramola, Chukwuma Ogbuli, Chief Marshal Harry, Chief A. K. Dikibo, Hon. Monday Ndor amongst others too numerous to mention”.

The efforts of successive administration’s in tackling the problem of extra judicial and other high profile killings have largely been ineffectual and short of peoples’ expectations as some have continued unabated as a result of which many people now live in fear and despair”.

He urged the House to prevail on the Nigerian Police Force to be alive to its responsibility in the prevention and proper investigation of crimes.

In his ruling, Rt., Hon. Yakubu Dogara mandated the Committees on Police Affairs, Public Safety and National Security (when constituted) to monitor the investigation of the cases and present an interim report to the House within four weeks, for further legislative action.
