BENIN CITY – The Lawmaker, representing Orhionmwon East Constituency II in the Edo State House of Assembly and the Chairman, House Committee on Transport, Hon. Nosa Okunbor, has advocated “regular training workshop for drivers and other road users in the state in order to reduce the carnage on our highways.
Hon. Okunbor, stated this recently in his office, shortly after inauguration of the House Standing Committees by the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Edoror, who, challenged the committee chairman and members to eschew any form of personal interest and promote a course of good governance, in the state.
While speaking to The Nigerian Observer, Hon. Okunbor maintained that leadership was by example and that he would use his position to harmonise the relationship between drivers and government, especially as it affects a conducive working environment and good welfare packages.
He pointed out that his privilege of becoming the chairman of the transport committee would streamline the policies and programmes of the transport ministry by building a synergy with the Honourable Commissioner for effective and efficient governance, while positing that regular training workshops and seminars could reduce the incessant occurrence of road accidents either at the highways or within the town or city.
He said that his committee and the transport ministry would soon map out strategy to collaborate with the authority of the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC, with a view to training drivers and other road users in the state as the possible ways to adhere strictly to traffic rules regularly to avoid accident.
