BENIN CITY- Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has identified the dire need of the sensitization of the public on the activities of non-governmental organisations in the society.
He canvassed this enlightenment campaign on behalf of Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) when he received the Board and members of Edo Women Development Initiative, a Non Governmental Organisation led by Prof. (Mrs.) Yinka Omorogbe in Benin City on Monday.
The Governor posited “The society is not sufficiently sensitized to appreciate that the fact of  being an NGO means that you get your funding from the public so that they can contribute to the good of the society which makes their activity quite challenging.”
He noted “there are things that government can do and there are things it can’t do. The ones it can do it finds out that having non –state actors can also help to complement effort of   government.
Governor Oshiomhole further said “There are things that non-governmental agencies can do even more efficiently than a state can do because of bureaucracy  and other factors, adding that “I do appreciate your commitment in addressing social problems for devoting time, resources energy and creativity,” especially as not everybody has the flare.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Prof. (Mrs.) Yinka Omoregie hinted that the purpose of their visit was to inform the governor that they were in Benin City for a conference scheduled for 16th July, 2015 which has as its theme “Issues of Our Time; Violence, Crime And Unemployment” stressing that Edo Women Development Initiative is a non-governmental oroganisation.
