Lagos – Dele Awonuga, the Head Coach Del Basketball Academy has commended Nigeria’s U-16 basketball team for picking the World Championship ticket in Madagascar.
Nigeria’s female youngsters had defeated Mozambique 54-51on Saturday to reach the final and pick one of the two available tickets for the world championship.
Awoniyi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday that feat was achieved through available youth programme in the country.
“This is a great achievement for Nigeria and this is credited to the enabling environment that gives youth programmes to develop young aspiring players.
“Currently, we have no fewer than 60 players in the Del Academy camp who we are training to become future champions.
“The availability of this academy and several more will continue to develop players to represent the country in the nearest future.
“The various academy should be encouraged by sponsors to enable us discover talents that will be nurtured and trained for future purposes,’’ he said.
NAN reports Nigeria youngsters will engage Mali in the final in the Africa Youth Championship which began in July 12.
