BENIN CITY –   Secretary  to Edo State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, has charged youth in the country to be diligent, believe in themselves and expand their minds in order to engage the challenges of life positively.
Prof. Ihonvbere was speaking yesterday in Benin City, at the 2015 International National Youth Council of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, (NYCN) with the there “Youth Civic Engagement”.
He remarked that although the present administration was very responsive to issues that affect youth, they on their own should not use their back grounds or poverty as excuse not to be the best they can be in life.
He equally stressed the need for youths to prepare for proper engagement. The SSG encouraged them to be contented with what they have, be careful with the kinds of leadership they follow, associations they keep, and broaden their horizon through extensive reading in   order to make themselves world citizens.
Prof. Ihonvbere noted that though the state government believes in capacity building, however capacity building cannot stand on its own, “Hence any legitimate government would build lasting imputations to support capacity building”, he said.
Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, Comrade Ajayi Innocent, urged the state government and those in authority to create job opportunity and skill acquisition centres in order to curb the increasing rate of crime across the nation.
Former Special Adviser on Protocol to Edo State Governor, Hon. Agharese Idubor, remarked that the youth day is set aside to look at topical issues that affect youths across the world.
He enjoined youths to be prepared to take advantage of opportunities they will be given positively.
Highlight of the event was the conferment of patron, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter on Prof. Julius Ihonvbere and the unveiling of sewing machines donated by a well meaning individual of the state, Chief Edigin.
