BENIN CITY-Police in Benin City said investigation into the alleged suicide by a medical doctor is still ongoing in the state capital.
The Public Relations Officer for Edo Police Command DSP Stephen Onwochei stated this in Benin City, recently.
He however advised the bereaved family to remain calm as investigation would further reveal what actually happened.
It will be recalled that Dr. John Abode allegedly committed suicide in his room, in Benin City on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.
The deceased family had in a statement expressed belief that his death was caused by someone else.
They explained that the Post- Mortem on the body and the examination of the scene of the incident by the police pathologist only indicated that he died of asphyxiation which they claimed could have been by another person other than the deceased.
Also, they posited that the wardrobe bar which collapsed upon application of little weight by the police pathologist in the presence of others whereas the victim weight was over 110kg deflated the claim that he stepped on it to hang himself.
“What is even more worrisome is the height of the wardrobe which at best, at par with the deceased’s height. Can a man hang himself from the same height as himself?
“The police neither met him hanging nor did they see any object around his neck on arrival at the scene.
“This goes a long way in supporting our theory that the murder took place outside his room and was stage-managed to appear otherwise”.
“Only two weeks before the incident, realised his aspiration of completing and moving into the permanent site of his private hospital, Hope Medical Centre.
“He also bought a car a couple of days earlier. These actions are not consistent with a man who will end his own life.
Dr John Abode family however called on the police to quiz some members of his immediate family whose account of his death is questionable.
