THE Benin Traditional Council has reacted to a publication in The NIGERIAN OBSERVER of Thursday, 6th August, 2015, and NTA announcement of 5th August, 2015, which refered to Osarobo Okunoghae, the Ogiamien of Benin Kingdom said to be missing as His Royal Majesty (HRM).
Frank Irabor, Secretary of the Benin Traditional Council in a press release, stated that the Ogiamien is addressed as ‘His Royal Majesty’.
“According to the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict of 1979, Chief Ogiamien is known as Chief and not His Royal Majesty (HRM)”.
“The release further clarified that in Benin Kingdom, only the Oba of Benin is known and addressed by the appellation, His Royal Majesty (HRM). Anybody doing otherwise would be running foul of the law”.
