BENIN CITY – The All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State chapter,  has described as misleading the claims in some quarters that the probe being carried out by President Muhammadu Buhari is selective.
The State APC which through the state Treasurer of the party, Alhaji Saliu Momoh, while reacting to the Ibo Leaders of Thought (ILT) statement that the President was being selective in his probe, noted that Buhari has no hatred for any section of the country.
He said President Buhari has not named those to be probed, but rather has directed his attention towards corrupt politicians.
Momoh, who spoke to newsmen in Benin City, opined that the submission credited to Ben Nwabueze, an elder statesman, that the President has marginalized the South East and South South was mischievous.
He reminded those calling the President, a sectional leader to recall that twice when he contested presidential election in 2003 and 2007, easterners were his running mates.
The former National Vice Chairman of the defunct ANPP asserted that any group calling for the probe of the administration outside that of Goodluck Jonathan was out of track.
He noted that nothing stopped former President, Jonathan to have probed regimes before him.
“If Jonathan or any other President refused to probe the regimes before him, that will be for a reason best known to them.
“If Buhari decided to probe the administration that handed over to him based on APC manifesto, so be it”, Momoh said.
He wondered why the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Kukah would excuse former President Jonathan from any probe, considering the massive looting of the nation’s treasury that took place under the watch of his administration.
According to Momoh, “I don’t share the view of those who want to carve a hero out of the former President because he contested an election; he lost and handed over to the winner.
He did the very right thing, if anybody is to be called a hero, he is the APC national leader, Sen. Ahmed Bola Tinubu, a strategist right from the formation to the registration of the party to winning the election.
He stood against the tide of greater power for the progressives to take Nigeria into the hall of democratic nations”
