BENIN CITY-The manpower of the Central Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Edo State Police Command has been strengthened, retrained and kitted to tackle traffic congestion in Benin metropolis.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo Mr Chris Ezike disclosed that additional 60 personnel were deployed to boost the manpower of the traffic department.

Reflective jackets and special traffic sleeves were given to the officers during pre-deployment briefing by the police boss.

No fewer than 200 traffic officers including, Benin Area Commander, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and the newly deployed attended the pre-deployment training at the police command headquarters, Benin City, last weekend.

Their work hours were extended to 10pm to ease traffic.

CP Ezike charged the Area Commander and DPOs to identify the causative factors and problems of traffic jam in their various domain with a view to tackling them.

The Officer-in-Charge, MTD, CSP Akeke Enimiojafa was at the event to ensure compliance with the CPs directives.

He expressed readiness to synergize with relevant agencies to ease gridlock at different locations.

He directed them to provide the traffic personnel with adequate security while on duty as they would be equipped with communication gadgets.

“There are old ones, but 60 people have been injected to beef up the number. The noticeable areas of problems have appreciably increased.

“We giving them reflective jackets to reduce the danger they would experience”. He stated.

CP Ezike disclosed that he has directed the Benin Area Commander to invite all park within the metropolis to a meeting.

“Let us directly engage them, I am sure the result of that engagement will add value to what are going to do”. Mr Ezike assured.

The police chief however warned motorists who violent traffic laws to desist forthwith as anyone caught would be dealt with accordingly.
