BENIN CITY- A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Executive Director, Poverty Alleviation, Women Mobiliation, Chief Mrs Evelyn Igbafe has implored members of the party to support the state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in the quest for amiable and credible candidate that would fly the banner of the party and continue the good work of the governor in the state.
Chief Igbafe made this known yesterday in Benin City when she addressed an enlarged meeting of party faithful from the three senatorial districts of the state.
She said “Let me welcome everyone of you to this important meeting tagged project 2016 (continuity) I decided to convene this meeting with representatives of our great party, the All progressive Congress (APC) from the three senatorial districts namely Edo South, North and Central.
“You will all agree with me that our Comrade Governor, Adams Oshiomhole in less than seven years has done marvelously well.”
Chief Mrs. Igbafe, who noted with delight the infrastructural development of the governor in the area of Education, Health care delivery, roads, environmental beautification and human capacity development, called for continuity of APC- led government in Edo come November 2016.
She posited “this level of development has never happened in the history of Edo State. Besides, Comrade Oshiomhole as a man with big heart extended this development to the various senatorial districts. She said the purpose of project 2016 therefore is to join hands with the governor and the party hierarchy to produce a credible, amiable people -oriented and God -fearing person to take over from Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in order to ensure that on-going projects and yet to be initiated ones are completed.
According to her “we in APC believe in internal democracy and so we will constantly be in touch with party leaders to ensure the right choice is made because we do not believe in imposition.
“If the right person emerges from within the mechanism that will be put in place by the party with the support of the governor, such a person no doubt will get our support but such person must be one who will not use party members for his family interest or the interest of the few cabals he belongs but someone who will emulate all the good political culture ever demonstrated by comrade Oshiomhole,” she stressed.
Chief (Mrs.) Igbafe, who doubled as the chairman of continuity project 2016 however, advised the people of Edo State to fully embrace development that will bring about empowerment rather than depending on stipends from politicians with selfish interest.
In an interview, the vice-chairman of the group and leader, ward 7, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Mr. Ekhator Osawaru said that the group will throw its weight behind whichever candidate that has been with the governor.
He however, enjoined members present to go back to their various wards and local government to mobilize support for the group saying that the task of getting credible candidate to take after Oshiomhole must be achieved,” he maintained.
