LAGOS – Two old women and five men were yesterday rescued from the crumble of a three storey building that collapsed at Odunfa area of Lagos Island, as several others are still believed to be trapped inside debris.
The five men and one old woman were rescued from the collapsed building situated at 87 Odunfa Street of Adeniji-Adele road, Lagos Island, by youths in the area who immediately took up the rescue mission as soon as the incident occurred.
The second old woman who sustained no injury was also rescued through the combined efforts of NEMA, LASEMA, youths, Police and other security operatives.
The rescued victims were rushed to Sura Health Centre on the Island for treatment while emergency agents continue their efforts to evacuate those that are still trapped in the rubble
Efforts are still being made by the combined team as at the time of this report, to rescue some others who were believed to have been trapped in the debris.
It was reliably gathered that the affected building which had started giving signs to the residents as early as 6.30am yesterday finally caved in at about 9.46am with a shock sound that made residents from other buildings in the area to run for their lives.
The GM and CEO of Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Fouad Oki who had been on standby since the time of incident told our correspondent that Governor Ambode’s administration will leave no stone un turned in getting rid of bad private structural developers in the state.
According to him, “We will no longer allow these corrupt developers to continue to kill our people because of their greediness and the using of sub standard materials for construction.”
