BENIN CITY- As the 2016 Gubernatorial Election in Edo State draws near, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo State has presented the party’s report-card for the past seven years to the people of the state.
Presenting the report-card before newsmen in Benin City, the Edo APC, through the state Treasurer, Alhaji Saliu Momoh said it was time for the people of the state to count the gains of the APC’S administration since the party took over power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seven years ago.
“You will agree with me that there has been significant difference or deviation from previous style in the way the state was governed by PDP,” said Alhaji Saliu Momoh.
He said that on assumption of office in 2008, one of the stark realities that confronted the administration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole under the platform of the ACN, now APC was the complete collapse of the educational sector.
He said steps were taken to invest massively in the sector through a deliberate reconstruction, rehabilitation and re-equipping programme that has gulped the sum of N13.96bn.
According to him, the face of education in the state has changed considerably, adding that schools “Red Roof ” is now a phenomenon.
“In the area of water and energy, the APC administration has carried out massive lighting up of many rural communities and provision of water, particularly to areas with difficult terrain in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which underlies the bold step to transform the state,” he said.
Alhaji Momoh said that from 2009 to date, Edo State Government had awarded contracts to the tune of N121.6bn for construction of urban and rural roads amounting to 600kms across the three senatorial districts many of which have been completed.
On transportation, he said the administration purchased over 100 mass transit buses for the state owned Edo City Transport Service (ECTS).
On health, the PAC Chieftain said the government of APC embarked on massive construction and reconstruction of General Hospital with major emphasis on maternity wards to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the state.
He therefore called on Edo people to support the APC in the 2016 governorship election, so as to enjoy more dividends of democracy from APC led government.
