BENIN – The Edo State Tipper Drivers Association, has reaffirmed its supports and commitment to the administration of Governor Oshiomhole in the state.
Speaking to The Nigerian OBSERVER, in his office in Benin on Wednesday, on behalf of the members, the State Chairman of the union, Comrade Godwin Omoigiomwan said that the intervention and prouncement made by the Edo State House of Assembly in respect of the protracted strike action the members underwent for a period of One month arising from unnecessary distraction by the purported tax consultant agrnt on revenue generation on burrow pits commendable.
It will be recalled that the Tippers Drivers’ went on strike last September and subsequently protested to the government to register their grievances about the ways and manners the union was taxed by an unknown agent of government.
He maintained that consequent upon the said protest, the Edo State Government through the proactive Edo State House of Assembly waded into feud and resolved that the Tipper Drivers should go back to work in the interest of the state.
The resolution of the house, according to the state chairman, also directed the purported tax consultant agent to stop collecting taxes within a period of two weeks, when a formidable committee would be constituted to amicable resolve the impasse.
Comrade Omoigiomwan however, commended the pragmatic display of magnanimity of the Edo State House of Assembly in averting crises which would have grounded economic activities in the state.
He described the action of the House as the manifestation of the Governor’s desire to impact good governance on the people, while assuring him of their total support and commitment to transform Edo State to greater height.
Omoigiomwan, who has indicated interest for second term in office, however, advised his members to eschew violence, just as he urged them to report any suspicious tax agent to the security agencies in the state.
