BENIN CITY- Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has praised President Muhammadu Buhari for nominating quality hands as Ministers, saying the nominees will truly drive the desired change needed for the country to move forward.
Speaking yesterday at the launch of an autobiography “This Is My Life; the Journey So Far”, by Professor Emmanuel Emovon, Oshiomhole said: “the book is being presented at a time we are having a new President, who is determined to, and is already inspiring all of us by the quality of Ministers he has assembled. People may have political issues but in terms of the quality of those people, I haven’t seen any of them that anybody can dismiss as not worthy of his nomination and so, we are going to have a Presidency and a Federal Executive Council manned by men and women that are determined to lead the path of change and all of us can contribute to make that change happen.
“The future that I see and the future that President Buhari is determined to build is the one in which there would be strong relationship between effort and reward and your effort can only flow from what you know. It cannot flow from what you don’t know and it cannot flow from who you know”.
Oshiomhole emphasised, “We must reposition our country and encourage our young people to recognise that they can define what they want to be in life. Hard work will pay; if it didn’t pay in the recent past, it will pay now and in the future because I know that President Buhari is determined to eliminate that idle class that make so much money without business address and ensure those who make money can explain how they made the money so they can inspire others to toe that path.
“We want to do away with a country where people can boast of having so much not on account of their industry but on account of their connections. A country that return to the rule of law where there is discipline, there is fear of God but there is also fear of man and I think Professor Emovon is an example of such a citizen.
“We have a huge task of renewing hope in our younger population. Too many of our young people no longer believe that it is what you know that matters, many reason that it is who you know that matters.”
The Governor praised Prof Emovon for writing his biography, saying “the real lesson for me is that Professor Emovon has reminded all of us that not even the factor of age should be an excuse for us not to document our own life and also add to the body of knowledge for younger people to read and be inspired about the infinite possibilities that exists in this environment with all the imperfections that we can see and all the tensions that characterise our everyday life.
“It takes a disciplined mind to be able to sit down and put in a readable form his biography in the manner that our author has done and I think for all of us, if what we take away from here is that we shall also try to document our own life experiences because every one of us in this hall, we also have one story or another to tell from which somebody else can learn something.”
In his Speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Sam Igbe, the Iyase of Benin Kingdom said Professor Emovon is a role model, a man loved by his people and whose leadership qualities made him a proud son of the Benin Kingdom and wished him many happy returns.
The book was reviewed by Professor Dennis Agbonlahor former Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
