BENIN CITY : There was pandemonium at house No.6, Esangbedo street, Upper Sakponba area in Benin City recently when some persons believed to be cultists stormed the place and unleashed mayhem on suspected family members of a deceased cult leader.
According to information scooped up by our reporter, Mr Friday Asiruwa was a leading member of a dreaded cult group (name with held) before his death in early October 2015.
However unknown to the family, the deceased had designated his 27 year-old son, Kenneth Asiruwa as his sucessor in the cult group as enshrined in the cult group’s oath of allegiance.
Our reporter gathered that trouble broke out when members of the Fraternity stormed the home of late Friday Asiruwa three days after his funeral and demanded to exhume his corpse for further burial in accordance with the cult’s rites of passage and also forcibly initiate his son into their fold.
” There was fracas as family members resisted the forceful initiation of Kenneth Asiruwa and the odious attempt to exhume the body of his late father.Three elders of the Asiruwa’s family who speard headed the resistance were beaten to death during the pandemonium”, a source close to the family told our reporter.
Our source further stated that the fate of the young Asiruwa, Kenneth was unknown as he and other family members reportedly escaped from the scene with varying injuries.
Further inquiries by this reporter revealed that the ordeals of the Asiruwa’s family dates back to 2001 when their matriarch, Mrs Mercy Asiruwa died under mysterious circumstances. Close family members believed the woman was a victim of ritual killing by members of the cult group which thrives on human sacrifices . Her body was severed into parts, leading to speculations that she was a victim of ritual killing.
