BENIN CITY-Four policemen have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and subsequently remanded in prison custody over alleged extra-judicial murder of one Benson Obode a car dealer in Benin City, last May.

Also, operatives of Edo Police Command have arrested additional suspect allegedly linked to the abduction and murder of Professor Paul Erie of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, last June.

The arrest of Iyator Felix brings to nine, the number of suspects so far apprehended after the gruesome murder of the Professor.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State Mr Chris Ezike disclosed these to journalists at the state police command headquarters in Benin City, recently.

He stated that the four policemen Adedeji Adeleke, 33, Henry Shobowale, 32, Abena John, 33 and Oniye Musa, 35 re-arrested, investigated and charged for murder on October 19, 2015.

“The four policemen were re-arrested, investigated, tried in departmental Orderly Room, dismissed from the Force and charged to court for murder”, CP Ezike stated.

COMPOL Ezike added that the suspects were remanded to prison custody and the case file forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for advice.

He stated that the policemen from Lagos State Command had on Thursday, May 21, 2015 on investigation in Benin City extra-judicially killed one Benson Obode under circumstances considered to be unprofessional.

He further explained that the eight suspects earlier apprehended have been charged to Igbanke Magistrate Court which remanded them in prison custody.

Mr Ezike noted that one suspect, Arikpo Nwagbara is still at large as the command has intensified efforts to arresting him.

He revealed that those earlier arrested and now remanded included Samson Idegbema, Amayo Jeremiah, Eboigbe Monday and Ejimien Oyahire.

Others are Aimieyi Lucky, Benjamin Blessing, Usiogwu Stephen and Odion Otabor.
