AUCHI – His Royal Highness Oba Sule. A. Idaiye, the Imah IV of Somorika in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, has harped on the need to overhaul the Judiciary in order to meet with the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.
Oba Idaiye made his intention known recently while speaking with The Nigerian Observer during a meeting of all the traditional rulers in Edo North at the palace of Otaru of Auchi, HRH Alhaji Aliru. H. Momoh Ikelebe III.
He said that the judiciary had been characterized by flaws to the extent that it is no longer regarded as the last hope of the common man, noting that the workers, especially the judges had subjected themselves cheaply to the whims and caprices of politicians without recourse to the oaths of allegiance and office they sworn to.
Oba Idaiye further said that the Judiciary is no longer what it used to be, saying that corruption, tribalism, nepotism and others had been the order of the day when discharging their onerous responsibilities as enhanced in the constitution.
He, however, commended the bold steps taken by president Muhammadu Buhari in fighting corruption, insurgency and other social vices to the country, just as he had urged him not to spare anybody found culpable in the act.
Oba Idaiye, who frowned at the attitude of some military officers indicted in the corruption war, however, advised the Federal Government and the army authority to amend or repeal the Military laws for the purposes of efficient and effective service delivery to the nation, maintaining that if army officers could be involved in arms deal scandal who, else could be trusted?
He, therefore urged the people to support Mr. president to enable him succeed in the task ahead.
