BENIN CITY – Edo State Commissioner for Budget, Planning and Economic Development, Mr. Lawrence Aghedo has attributed the successes recorded by Edo State Government in prompt payment of salaries, increased IGR and reforms in public financial management to the guidance given by the World Bank.
He stated this yesterday while playing host to a delegation of the World Bank and the European Union who are currently in the state for a Mid-term Review mission on the Edo State Employment and Expenditure for Result (SEEFOR ) Project.
Hon. Aghedo noted that the Edo SEEFOR Project has assisted the state government immensely to provide employment opportunities for youths while the Community Driven Devt. (CDD) aspect has enabled communities benefit Social Development projects, stressing that the State Government values the relationship with the World Bank.
The Commissioner stressed that with the caliber of professionals and experts on the team, the visit has afforded the state another rare opportunity to benefit from their wealth of experience.
While welcoming the visitors, the commissioner urged them to enjoy the local delicacies available in the city and wished them a fruitful deliberation and pleasant stay in Benin City.
Earlier, the Task Team Leader of the delegation, Mr. Ismaila Ceesay informed the commissioner that they were in the state on Mid-term review of the Edo SEEFOR Project to look at what has been done in all sub-components as well as other critical areas of the project which include Monitoring and Evaluation, Safeguard Compliance, sustainability of the project, procurement and fiduciary issue, if any.
He maintained that they also have the mandate of the Bank from Washington to look at what has been achieved and the aspects of the project that have been very successful, especially in terms of direct benefits to the beneficiaries and not the institutions.
The delegation also included representative of the European Union which is also a funder of the project.
