BENIN CITY – Edo State Government is to employ 3,000 teachers with the requisite qualifications this 2016 to complement the large number of schools that had been built and will also be built this year in continuation of the red roof development revolution.

The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Gideon Obakhan made the disclosure while fielding questions from newsmen in Benin City recently.
Hon. Obakhan explained that the emphasis on qualified teachers is in pursuance of the administration of Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s administration policy not only to sustain the already high education standard in Edo State but to also raise it higher and to ensure that the teachers are efficient to impact knowledge.
“Over the past couple of years we have focused on building of schools, this year while more schools will be built, we will concentrate on engaging qualified teachers and provision of materials for the schools,” he said.
According to the Education Commissioner, over 50 science teachers had already be employed and had been put through an induction programme.
On Tayo Akpata University, Ekiadolor, Hon. Obakhan disclosed that the institution would take off in the first quarter of 2016 asserting on funding, “I don’t see funding as an issue.”
