BENIN CITY-A 13 year-old boy and his youngest sister have been set ablaze in a deadly kerosene explosion that hit their family residence at Urhonigbe town in Orhionmwon local government area of Edo State.

The victims, master Moses Mighty and his half sister Iyegbekosa John, 4, suffered severe burns on their bodies from the dawn blast.

They are going through excruciating pains at the Accident and Emergency ward, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Ugbowo, Benin City.

Moses Mighty, a primary 5 pupil was sobered on realizing that he would be at the hospital when his classmates resume school for second term, today.

Mother of the victims Mrs Eke John said Moses was trying to refuel the family lantern when it exploded on them.

She revealed that on hearing an explosion followed with a scream she ran towards their direction only to meet her children burning like Hammatan fire.

Mrs John explained that her children would have roasted alive if not the prompt intervention of her neighbours.

She disclosed that the kerosene suspected to have been adulterated was bought from a lady who brings the product form Agbor town in Delta State to hawk at Urhonigbe in Edo.

She however appealed to Edo State government, concern authorities and kind-hearted individuals to come to her rescue as she does not have money to provide the needed adequate Medicare.

She lamented that her present husband has given up on the medical bills of her son Moses whose father, Mr Mighty from Calabar, Cross River State, she stated, disappeared after his birth.
