BENIN CITY- About nine communities in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State which had been in perpetual darkness for over three years now, would soon begin to enjoy electricity supply.
This followed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the representatives of the affected communities and officials of Edo –CSDP in Benin City last Monday.
The affected communities are Aghalokpe,Ugbuwe, Okodo, Utese, Egbeta, Uhen, Olomoye, Ulegbughe and Ogbesse.
Deputy Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Bright Osayande and the State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Mobilisation, Hon Presley Ediagbonya who are both indigenes of the area, apart from facilitating the meeting between officials of Edo-CSDP and affected communities, also made substantial financial contributions towards the community’s counterpart funding of the project which is estimated to gulp over N6 million.
The commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Moblisation, Hon. Presley Ediagbonya who spoke extensively at the meeting, said the renewed effort to resuscitate the near moribund electricity facilities in the affected communities, was not one borne out of political expediency but a genuine concern for the people who had lived without electricity supply for over three years.
He urged the communities involved in the project to put their monies together for the immediate payment of the counterpart fund as required by the Edo- CSDP which is the funding agency for the project.
The General Manager of Edo-CSDP, Dr. Gbenga Daodu who noted that the project would include the purchase of 300 concrete poles and hangers, servicing of faulty transformers, and the restringing of the poles, assured that all the funds needed for execution of the project would be ready for accessment in three weeks time while the project should be completed before the Easter period.
Highpoint of the meeting was the appointment of a three-man committee to manage the execution of the project.
