Abuja – The Minister of Interior, retired Lt. Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau, has called for the support of the West Africa Conflict and Security Team in the post-conflict management of the North-East of Nigeria.

Danbazau made the call on Thursday in Abuja when the Head of the regional security team, Mrs Catherine Weiss, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

The West Africa Conflict Security and Security Team (WACST) is a regional security Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) comprising security experts from ECOWAS, United Kingdom and other foreign countries.

The minister, who decried the insurgency in the North-East, stressed the need for all hands to be on deck as the Federal Government began efforts to maintain law and order in the liberated North-East.

He disclosed that the federal government was working with all relevant stakeholders including regional security NGOs to fast track the process of re-integrating the displaced persons.

“As you know, the ministry of Interior is the hub of internal security in Nigeria and we are working round the clock to ensure public safety in the country, especially in the North-East.

“We will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that we win the war and win the peace after the military operation,’’ he said.

Danbazau emphasised the need for heightened security especially at the borders to forestall cross border movement of arms and terrorists.

He said that there would be more deployment of Police, Civil Defence and Immigration officers to the North-East in line with international best practice as it applied to post-conflict situation and governance.

Earlier, Head of the regional security team, Catherine Weiss, said that the delegation was in Nigeria to help government in the post-conflict management of the North-East and other volatile areas.

She said that the team had been engaging security agencies since 2014 in a bid to ensure security, law, order and stability in the country.

Weiss described the security situation in Nigeria as crucial to regional security and called on relevant stakeholders to join the fight against terrorism and other security threats to the country
