Abuja – The Speaker, House of Representatives Hon.Yakubu Dogara has dismissed reports on the disappearance of the 2016 budget of the Federal Government of Nigeria FGN describing some media reports on the missing of the budget as unfounded rumour.
At plenary on Wednesday after the approval of the votes and proceedings of last Tuesday’s sitting, the speaker announced that copies of the 2016 budget are ready for collection by lawmakers at the secretariat of the House Committee on Appropriation.
He appealed to House members or their staffers with identity to come for the collection of their own copies of the budget adding that its consideration by the House commences immediately.
Speaking specifically about the disappearance of the budget, he said “the media should always verify the information they send to to the public and also seek clarification on certain matters when it becomes necessary to do so”
There are some media reports today Wednesday January 13, 2016 that the N6.08 trillion government budget was missing from the Senate chambers of the National Assembly.
The consideration of the 2016 budget was slated to commence at the Senate on Tuesday upon its resumption but could not go as the budget document was reported missing in the National Assembly.
Prior to the resumption of their plenary, the senators went into a closed door session during which they were told that the budget proposal could not be found.
It will be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had on December 22, 2015, laid the budget proposal of N6.08 at a joint session of the the National Assembly.
