BENIN CITY-Edo State Government has donated a 500KVA electricity transformer to the Police Command headquarters after 15 months of total blackout occasioned by faulty transformer in Benin City.
The Edo State Governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole represented by the state Commissioner for  Energy, Solid Minerals, Oil and Gas, Edo State Hon. Saturday Idehen, commissioned the transformer at the state police command headquarters, Benin City, yesterday.
He stated that electricity is key to providing security in the state hence the need for the state government to ensure that men of the police command operate in a conducive environment.
“I am happy today that the command has been reconnected, men of the command can now operate in a conducive environment”. He maintained.
Earlier, the state commissioner of police Mr Chris Ezike expressed the command’s appreciation to the state governor for his response.
CP Ezike disclosed that he assumed duty in state without electricity supply to the command headquarters, Benin City.
He however disclosed that the adjoining Adesuwa police barracks also affected by the blackout would later be reconnected to the 500KVA transformer which replaces the old 300KVA.
Present at the commissioning were some senior police officers in the command, Divisional Police Officers (DPO), Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Edo State Chief Odion Olaye, among others.
