BENIN CITY – The Edo State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Barrister Abdul Oroh has said the state has the potentials to be a commercial hub in the nation.
He disclosed this in his presentation during the second edition of Mayaki Roundtable with Friends in the media held in Benin City.
The Commissioner who dwelt on Commerce and Industry in Edo State disclosed   that the state, beside improved electricity has the advantage of its centralized location to be a market for different geo-political zones.
He disclosed that the state has a bright future, considering its viable position in commerce, but however disclosed that would concentrate on public / private partnership in engaging in commercial ventures.
In her presentation Hon (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie of Edo State House of Assembly said “it take a focused and generous government to do what the State Governor Adams Oshiomhole is doing in Edo State”.
According to her, the impact of Oshiomhole’s administration on to women and children empowerment has been eventful.
She disclosed that “more women have been appointed under Governor Oshiomhole’s administration, politically, under Oshiomhole, women are now exposed to speak and can attain any level, Oshiomhole’s education policy has increased women’s interest in education, “citing the ‘Red Roof revolution” as case in point.
In spite of this, she sued for gender mainstreaming in all ministries and different sectors of the economy.
The State Commissioner  for Housing and Urban Development, Arch Francis Evbuomwan in this presentation on issues and misconceptions of the Land Use Act in Edo State said the land use charge enables government to be able to manage assets.
According to him, the revenue from crude oil made Governor Oshiomhole to source for alternative source revenue.
According to him, the revenue from the federation account only pay about 30 percent of salary, with internally Generated Revenue to the rescue.
Other resource persons at the event included the Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), Chief Oseni Elamah, represented by Barr. Emmanuel Usoh who spoke on the topic “Beyond Crude Oil and federal allocation: what future for Edo State” and the Project Co-ordination of State Employment and Expenditure for Result  (SEEFOR) Edo State, Mr. Taiwo Akerele who spoke on the topic: “Intangible achievement of Government of Edo State”.
The Director, Media and Public Affairs to the Governor and facilitator of the programme, Mr. John Mayaki said the governor had done much for the State since he assured office as governor of the state.
