Benin city – Edo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Kassim Afegbua has expressed the need to genuinely support the state government in its bid to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
The commissioner made the remarks when the executive officers of the National Union of Printing Publishing and Paper Products, Workers (NUPPPPROW) Edo State visited him in Benin City, saying government is committed to give face-lift to parastatals under the ministry.
He listed the parastatals to include Bendel Newspaper Company Limited (BNCL), publisher of The Observer Titles, Government Printing Press and The State Library Board.
According to him the state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is committed to the welfare of workers as evidenced in the regular and prompt payment of salaries.
He said he has briefed the governor on his findings during his familiarisatation tour of parastatals, adding that plans are on to address their various challenges.
Chair of NUPPPPROW, Edo State, Comrade Queen Obaghagie said the visit was to congratulate the commissioner on his elevation as well as familiarize the officials of the union with the commissioner.
She said the union membership cuts across BNCL, Government Printing Press and the State Library Board.
She enumerated the problems facing the parastatals to include obsolete equipment and dearth of manpower, while suing for government intervention.
