BENIN CITY-The Ohen, Chief Priest of Aruogba Community in Oredo local government area of Edo State Pa Clifford Omosomwan has been shot dead in his sleep by unknown gunmen who sneaked into his compound in the community, last Thursday.

It was gathered that the gunmen shot Pa Clifford Omosomwan, 86 through the window of his bedroom where he was sleeping about 2a.m.

The shot suspected to have been fired at close range also wounded another member of the deceased household.

The killing came barely three weeks after WEEKEND OBSERVER reported that fresh crisis looms in Aruogba following the reconstitution of the Community Development Association (CDA) of Aruogba.

The exclusive report published on Saturday, February 6, 2016 followed intelligence gathered by our crime reporter when he visited the community shortly after the announcement of the reconstitution of the CDA.

The Public Relations Officer, Edo police command DSP Osifo Abiodun assured the community of intensified police patrol to forestall further ugly situation like the killing of Pa Clifford Omosomwan.

He appealed to aggrieved members of the community to forget, forgive and embrace peace in the interest of co-existence and development of the community.

It will be recalled that the former (CDA) of Aruogba suffered leadership tussle that resulted in the barbaric killings and wanton destruction of property estimated at over N50million, months ago.

Among victims of the violence were one Okoro Ogbaetin and the community deputy Odionwere Pa Goodluck Osayande Uwumarogie whose head was shivered and taken away by his yet to be identified assailants.

It was learnt that late Pa Clifford Omosomwan and some elders of Aruogba Community were said to have been held several meetings towards restoring peace to the community.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Public Relations Officer for Edo State Police Command DSP Osifo Abiodun failed as he was yet to reply to the text message sent to his phone at press time, yesterday.
