IDOGBO (Ikpoba-Okha) – The last has not been heard of the violence that accompanied the 2015 general elections in the country, particularly in Benin City, where a Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Igie Osayande was clubbed to death and his body set ablaze by unidentified thugs in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.

A reports reaching our news desk from Idogbo, the administrative headquarters of Ikpoba Okha Local Government headquarters, Edo State has it that thugs had earlier stormed Ward 9, Units 9, 10 and 11 in Obagienevbosa Community, off Sapele Road during the last general elections, and demanded to be accredited long after the statutory accreditation period had elapsed and voting was already in progress.

The reports said that one Chief Abumenre Stephen, a very strong and popular PDP strategist was heavily fingered in the crisis, consequently arrested and was allegedly injected with some strange substances by some agents of the new ruling party, the APC.

Chief Abumenre, according to the source who preferred to remain anonymous said that the renowned Chief is perceived as electoral strategist for the emerged PDP opposition party and was therefore perceived as a clear and present danger to the ruling party, hence the said treatment.

It was revealed that some unknown gunmen and APC agents considered in some quarters to be have reputation for ruthlessness and brutality have vowed to kill Abumenre Kennedy as revenge for the death and gruesome murder of their Youth Leader by suspected loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The APC agents and the security authority also declared and are in hot pursuit of one Abumenre Kennedy, the son of the popular politician”, the source said.

Abumenre Kennedy was born on October 27, 1994 and was a student of Public Administration with Ambrose Alli University (AAU), the source added.

It is however strange to see democracy which is supposed to be defined not just by periodic elections, but also by justice, fairness and equality.

The process that produces leadership under a democratic setting must be credible; seamless and must reflect the wishes and aspiration of the majority of the people.

It is therefore sad to note the rather high level of violence that has become the norm as far as elections in Nigeria is concerned.

As at the time of filling in this report, the whereabouts of Abumenre Kennedy could not be ascertained.
