BENIN CITY- Hon. Victor Edoror, Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly has assured owners of the year 2011 demolished houses in Benin City of government’s resolve to pay their compensation immediately investigations into the delay in the payment of compensations are concluded.

The Speaker, while addressing protesting landlord from Uselu-Ugbowo-Lagos Road axis of Benin City yesterday said that parliament would carryout a routine check to ascertain the reasons for the non-payment of the compensations to the protesting landlords.

“I want to assure you that I will investigate the issue to find out the reason for the delay in the payment of the money”, Speaker Edoror said.

Speaking further, he said that “if approval has been given and we find out that somebody is responsible for the delay, necessary action will be taken against such persons”.

In an earlier address, Mr. Wilfred Enabulele, speaking on behalf of protesting landlords and landladies of Uselu in Egor Local Government Area of the state appealed to the state government to urgently process the payment of compensations for their houses that were demolished in the state in 2011 to pave way for the expansion of Uselu-Ugbowo Lagos Road side lanes.

Mr. Enabulele said that some houses were demolished completely, while others were partially demolished following administrative procedures that assured them of adequate compensation.

He added that the Ministries of Lands and survey and Housing have accessed and screened the affected landlords and landladies.

“We are appealing to the state government to commence the process of compensating the affected landlords five years after the demolition”, Mr. Enabulele added.
