Benue :- The quiet village of Agatu was yesterday attacked again by Fulani Herdsmen in retaliation for the killing of their cows by the farmers in that village.
According to Fulani community Leader, Agatu people triggered the crisis by killing 10,000 of our cattle.
The Fulani community in Benue State, accused of killing hundreds in Agatu in Benue State, said that the crisis started after 10,000 of cattle belonging to its members were killed by Agatu natives.
The herdsmen came in their numbers, brandishing different weapons, killing and maiming whosoever they come in contact with. In the process many villagers were killed.
Most affected is the family of Ahunsimen as their father was killed and their building raised to the ground. But the wife daughter and their son Festus disappeared without a trace.
It was revealed that the herdsmen came in search of Festus who they believe spare headed the slaughtering of their cows.
The Federal Government has been called upon to intensify efforts towards resolving farmers and herdsmen crisis to enable activities to resume.
Weeks ago, the Agatu region of Benue State became a red spot on the world map when Fulani cattle rearers in combat gears, armed with the trademark AK-47 rifles, invaded several villages and farm settlements in broad daylight, gunning down children, women, men and the elderly alike. About 300 villagers were reportedly massacred in the first killing spree with heavy casualties recorded in communities like Aila, Okokolo, Akwu, Adagbo, Odugbehon and Odejo.
