LAGOS – The President of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Council, Dr Bernard Aliu, has arrived in Nigeria on an official visit.
This is contained in a statement issued by the General Manager, Public Relations, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Mr Sam Adurogboye, yesterday in Lagos.
According to the statement, Aliu will hold a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.
Other programmes lined up during the visit include a meeting with stakeholders in the aviation industry.
“The ICAO President, prior to his election on November 18, 2013, served for eight years as the ICAO Council’s Nigeria Representative.
“He was the pioneer Director of Air Transport Regulation at the NCAA from 2000 to 2004, after succeeding Roberto Kobeh Gonzalez of Mexico,’’ the statement reads.
During Aliu’s 2014 to 2016 triennium, ICAO established five comprehensive strategic objectives namely Safety, Air Navigation Capacity and Efficiency, Security and Facilitation, Economic Development of Air Transport and Environment Protection.
ICAO has 191 member countries and Nigeria is currently represented at the council by Mr Martins Nwafor.
