Ibadan-The Olubadan-in-council has insisted that there is no legal impediment against the coronation of the Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Saliu Adetunji, as the new Olubadan of Ibadan land
The Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, the Otun Olubadan (Dr). Lekan Balogun who dropped this hint at a joint world press conference here, the Oyo State capital while in companing of members of Olubadan-in-council and top officials of the state government, led by a former Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Ismael Olalekan Alli, said that there is no going back.
According to him , arrangements were in top gear for the coronation of the new Olubadan and presentation of staff of office by the State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, Friday.
It will be recalled that the members of the Seriki Line had gone to court contesting election of High Chief Saliu Akanmu Adetunji by the Olubadan-in-Council as the new Olubadan
According to the Seriki Line, it was wrong for the Council to pick High Chief Adetunji as the next Olubadan instead of the senior Chief from it.
The Otun Olubadan, (Dr.Lekan Balogun) said that for now, there is no known order that empowers the Kingmakers (Olubadan-in-Council) to pick the next Olubadan from the Seriki Line since the demise of Chief Augustus Meredith Adisa Akinloye, who was the title holder.
However, he deposed that “The Kingmakers who are members of the Olubadan -in-Council are the only people that are empowered to elect or pick the next Olubadan, not even the state governor.
The High Chief disclosed that the coronation ceremony would be graced by dignitaries and foremost traditional rulers all over the country .
Top musicians across the country too, some of whose works were produced by the Olubadan- designate on his Omo Aje record label some years back.
Adetunji 88, was born on August 26, 1928 to the family of Late Alhaji Olayiwola and Late Alhaja Suwebatu Adetunji of Adetunji Compound, Popo Yemoja, in the South-East axis of Ibadan metropolis.
