EKPOMA (ESAN WEST) – One feared dead in Benin City, capital of Edo state, as middle aged man, Alasa Desmond, a native of Ewu in Esan of Edo State, narrowly escaped being killed by dare-hard armed men, suspected to be cultists.
Desmond, was alleged to have fled ewu Esan his place of birth to Ekpoma Esan west local government area of Edo state, over constant threats to his life by a relation whose identity could not be immediately ascertained who alleged claim ownership of his late father’s parcel of land.
He (Desmond), it was gathered had been cultivating his late father’s land until the said relation showed up and asked him to steer clear from the land .
He was even alleged to have confessed to killing Desmond’s late father over ownership of the land, saying that he (Desmond) will die the way his father died.
Efforts by community leadership which earlier passed judgement in favour of Desmond, to curtail the matter failed as the relation kept tormenting him.
His confession that he was responsible for the death of Desmond’s father and the threat to his life prompted him (Desmond) to relocate to Ekpoma 2012 where he stayed with his uncle until 2016 when he discovered that his uncle was a former member of a cult group.
Desmond, was reported to be assisting his uncle at the shop until that ugly night when some armed men suddenly highlighted from a motor bike and opened fire at the shop.
An unsuspecting member of the public was reportedly shot dead while Desmond’s uncle sustained bullet injury and was immediately rushed to the hospital with the help of Desmond, and on their way he told Desmond the name of those that shot him and the uncle die of the gun shot.
It was gathered that few days after the incident, some armed men accosted Desmond, on his way attempted to kill him apparently to cover up their identity since he was the only one who could identify him to the security agents.
Desmond, was reported to have narrowly escaped from being killed and has not been seen or heard of.
The Edo state police command confirmed the incident, adding that investigation was ongoing.
